As my kids get a little older and a little easier for their grandparents to handle {we now have fewer diaper bags, bottles, diapers, etc.}, my husband and I have had the chance to plan some amazing road trips this summer. We just returned from our Chicago trip, which was a reunion with college friends we haven’t seen for a couple of years and included an awesome three hour trolley tour around the city with great music, drinks and a ton of fun. What better to bring on our drive up than Twizzlers? This is the candy I sneak into the movie theater, binge out on the couch while watching So You Think You Can Dance and use as a straw for my drinks. I was super excited to put a more creative twist {haha…} on this delicious candy and found the perfect snack for any road trip, along with a cute printable label if you are putting together some for friends.

Tips for your summer road trip without the kids…

*Plan out your trip by coming up with an itinerary. This saves me for all of our trips. It made our family trip to Madeira Beach in April go smoothly and it easier to follow when there are only two of us {plan some free time to veer off from the schedule and stay a little spontaneous}. Maybe I am just an organized planner, but I don’t know what I would do without my itinerary!!
*Get the GPS ready. I’m sure this is pretty much a given these days. My husband and I were just discussing the other day about how we used to print out our directions. Life before the GPS is unimaginable in this day and age {although with my personality, I would love to do this ———>}. I even remember buying a map at the gas station. The GPS made our trip to Chicago so much easier and gave us a quick route around the city when rush hour traffic was a mess.

*Bring cash for toll roads. We were able to avoid it on the trip up to Chicago but on the way back we made sure to carry a little extra cash for those pesky tolls.
*Bring the sunscreen and the shades. Yeah this is a weird one, but after a day of driving my left arm and left leg were a couple shades darker than my right side.
*Get your playlist ready. Fortunately, our minivan has its own hard drive, which is full of most of our favorite music. If you don’t have access to that, throw your tunes on a flash drive or a CD.
*Bring snacks and drinks! This Twizzlers Snack Mix is perfect for a road trip and totally delicious. It’s incredibly easy to make. All you need are some chocolate candies, Twizzlers Cherry Bites, cashews, raisins and some snack bags.

Here’s what you need for the summer punch:

Equal parts White Cranberry Juice, 7-Up and Blue Hawaiian Punch. Put it in a jar with a cute lid, a bottle or any other road trip friendly container.

Now you are all set for your summer road trips! What ideas do you have for a delicious snack with Twizzlers Twists this summer? The Original Strawberry Twists are my favorite and so much fun to use as a straw or in the snack mix I made if you are not a fan of the cherry flavor. You can find both the Twizzlers Original Twists and the Twizzlers Cherry Bites at your local Walmart. Check out more great ideas for Twizzlers Twists.
